Dress COde
DRESS LIKE A DANCER, LOOK LIKE A DANCER, BE A DANCER
A dress code ensures that a teacher will be able to see a dancer’s alignment and positioning. The teacher needs to be able to see a dancer's mistakes. Baggy clothing can mask bad habits, making corrections impossible. The Dance Depot requires students taking Ballet class to wear a black leotard (preferred) and pink or light-colored tights in order to make the lines of the legs visible. Form-fitting dance wear is also a requirement for jazz or Lyrical classes. Being properly dressed shows the teacher you are serious about your art form. You will feel more confident and dance better when properly dressed for class.
A dress code will also teach students discipline, helping with overall focus and energy. By "dressing the part," dancers feel like dancers. Dress codes can also create unity among the dancers instead of causing a few dancers to stand out, much like a school uniform policy. Dress codes go a long way in minimizing distractions, and help give classes a unified look.
HAIR must be securely pulled out of face or in a bun for Ballet!
Dancers will get the most out of their classes when the dress code is followed.
Students are expected to wear standard dancewear for class such as: Leotard plus one of the following: tights, dance shorts, leggings, or Jazz pants. A one piece biketard or unitard is also acceptable. All pants should be form-fitting (not baggy) and not touch the floor. Fitted dance shirts or tanks are permitted.
Never wear dance shoes outside the studio or wear street shoes in the studio.
Please put your name on your dance wear/shoes. This way all lost articles can be located easily.
